July 15th meeting at Red Butte Garden

Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Visitors Center at Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City. We will be presented with an informative tour of the rose garden by Rose Society members Crystal Kim and Cheryl Underwood. Refreshments will be provided by the Utah Rose Society.

Admission is free for Red Butte Garden members. For non-members the entry fee is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, $10 for military with ID, $7 for children. The entry fee entitles you to explore the entire Red Butte Garden landscape at your leisure.

Come and see a display of beautiful roses at the annual Utah Rose Society Show. You will see entries of individual roses, artistic arrangements, and photos. You can also talk with experienced rosarians to answer any of your rose-growing questions. Admission is free; please join us!

April 20th meeting

Join the Utah Rose Society on April 20, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Garden Center in Sugar House Park. The program will consist of instructions on how to enter roses, arrangements, and photography in the Annual Rose Show on Saturday, June 24th. The show schedule will be distributed and details on grooming your roses, making artistic design arrangements, and choosing photos to enter will be discussed. If you have never entered the show before, this will be your opportunity to learn how to do it and answer any questions you may have. Everyone is welcome! We want to encourage new rose lovers to display their flowers and win some prizes.

Utah Rose Society March meeting

The next Utah Rose Society meeting will be Thursday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Garden Center in Sugar House Park, 1602 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City, UT, 84106. The speaker, Barry Woodward, will present information on companion planting in rose gardens and garden landscape. Come and learn how to make your rose beds more beautiful (and healthy) by adding other plants and flowers. Everyone is welcome!

Utah Rose Society

February 16, 2017. 6:30 p.m. at the Garden Center in Sugar House Park. Ray Gillen will demonstrate how to sharpen your garden tools for spring. He will bring his equipment and sharpen your tools for you, so bring your pruners, loppers, shovels, etc. Everyone is invited.

Utah Rose Society October meeting

Next meeting, Thursday, October 20, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. June Openshaw will speak about “Neonicotinoids, Pollinators, and Disease-Resistant Roses.” Come and learn about systemic insecticides used on roses and other ornamental plants to control various kinds of insects, as well as how to choose disease-resistant roses. June is a long-time Utah Rose Society expert and organic gardener. Please join us; everyone is welcome.

September 15, 2016 meeting

Thursday, September 15, 6:30 p.m. at the home of Jerry Yoneda, 766 North 5000 West, West Point, UT 84015. Visit Jerry’s garden of 900 roses of all varieties, and take cuttings to grow in your own garden. Materials needed to start cuttings– including rooting hormone, pots, potting soil, etc.– will be provided. Come as early as 5:30, if you wish, so that you can view all of the roses. A pot luck dinner will served after the garden visit so that we will have enough daylight to see the roses. Bring a dish to share if you want to stay for the pot luck dinner.

 

Driving directions: Take I-15 and get off at exit 334. Go west (left if you were heading north) on 393. Follow 393 west until it dead ends at 2000 West. Take a right (north) on 2000 West and go to the first stoplight where you need to take a left turn (west) onto 300 North. Follow 300 North (going west) until it turns into 5000 West (the road takes a slight jog at 4500 West due to a surveying error). Follow 5000 West (going north) until you reach 766 North 5000 West.
